En países como la Argentina, donde el acceso al aborto está legalmente restringido, las mujeres se autoinducen el aborto o recurren a proveedores no calificados y luego ingresan a los servicios de salud con abortos incompletos y/o complicaciones. Por lo tanto, el tratamiento seguro y efectivo del aborto incompleto tiene una enorme capacidad para incidir sobre las cifras de morbi-mortalidad asociada al aborto inseguro.
